The Edit Menu provides useful tools when you are editing the text within a chunk.

Section— cph=42— clh=42— level=1—

1 What You Can See

Text— cph=77— clh=59—

The Edit Menu is a green toolbar which appears just above the keyboard during text editing. It has a number of buttons across it.

Text— cph=163— clh=111—

There are 2 different edit menus, though they share many elements. The selection menu shows when there is some selected text. The cursor menu shows when only the cursor is visible, i.e. there is no selection. The cursor menu provides tools to select different portions of the text of the current chunk, and other tools which make sense with just a cursor.

Text— cph=111— clh=77—

Both edit menus end with user defined buttons. These are read in from the resource document specified in user edit menu resource setting [more].

ProseEdit (V1.2) includes a suite of advanced correction heuristics which analyse the selection for all likely thumb-typing mistakes including those involving space, return, shift, erase and so on. The routines consider both your current typing reactions and neighbouring words for the best possible corrections. Suggestions which involve altering the text to the left or right of the selection are shown with a ⌫ or ⌦ as appropriate.

Text— cph=301— clh=197—

For example if you type: ‘misplace dspace’, you can fix the mistake by double-tapping on either ‘misplace’ or ‘dspace’:

misplace will give 〔  ✔ ▹ 〕 which suggests〔 misplaced space⌦ 〕
dspace will give 〔  ✘ ▹  〕 which suggests〔 ⌫misplaced space 〕

Tapping either correction button will fix the overall mistake.

Generally speaking you'll get more specific corrections/suggestion by tapping on the longest fragment (it gives the correction routines more to go on).

Text— cph=59— clh=42—

The suggestion routines also offer suggestions for correct words, including:

    Item— cph=59— clh=42— level=1— format=12—

4 User Edit Menu Buttons

Text— cph=94— clh=59—

Both edit menus end with user defined buttons which are loaded in from the specified resource document [manual].

Text— cph=77— clh=59—

User defined buttons are shown in the order they are loaded in, but are only included if they apply in that instance.

Text— cph=94— clh=59—

At their most basic, a user defined button simply inserts the shown text at the cursor when tapped. However, they are capable of much more as detailed below.

Section— cph=42— clh=42— id=Changing Case— level=2—

4.1 Case Changing

Certain button content is reserved to alter the case of the selection.

When capitalising words, the document's lexicons are checked for exceptions which will not be capitalised. The default lexicon includes definitions for words to be left in lowercase in titles (like ‘and’) as well as words with defined casing like iPhone. You can force the issue by selecting just a single word.

4.2 Selection Wrapping

Text— cph=146— clh=94—

Within a user defined button, a single … represents the current selection. This makes it possible to specify a wrap which is placed around the selection. The intent is to allow punctuation like (selected text), or “selected text” but it is not limited to just punctuation, any text can be included.

Text— cph=59— clh=42—

Any selection wrap can be removed by selecting the enclosed text and tapping 〔☓…☓〕.

4.3 Word Interspacing

Text— cph=128— clh=77—

Building upon selection wrapping above, a pair of … in a user defined button represent the words within the selection, with the characters between them being inserted between every word of the selection. You can also add wraps to either end should you wish.

Text— cph=111— clh=77—

Interspacing punctuation can be replaced by spaces by selecting the enclosing text and tapping 〔…☓…〕. Note that while the interspacing can be any text, only punctuation can removed by this means.

4.4 Dismiss Menu

Text— cph=146— clh=111—

A button entitled ‘Dismiss’ will dismiss the Edit Menu. This provides an alternative means to dismiss the menu if you find the normal methods [more] awkward.

There is no requirement for a ‘Dismiss’ button to be included in the user buttons.
